Rubella in Sololmon Islands
15 May 2012
Individuals planning to attend the Festival of Pacific Arts in Solomon Islands in July 2012 are being urged to be vaccinated against rubella, also known as German measles. The health authorities have issued the warning after a 1st case was recorded on Tue 8 May 2012 and 5 more a day later.
The health authority has planned an immunisation campaign beginning in June 2012.
Advice for Travellers
Rubella is highly infectious and is easily spread during large gatherings such as festivals and football games etc. Travellers from the UK intending to attend the Festival in Solomon Islands should discuss rubella immunisation with their GP before travelling.
