Avian Influenza (H5N1) (Human) in Cambodia (Update)

One further human case of avian influenza (H5N1) virus infection has been laboratory confirmed in Cambodia. The case is a 35-year-old man from Stueng Trang district in Kampong Cham province in the central lowlands of the Mekong River. The man developed symptoms on 8 February 2013, his condition continued to deteriorate despite hospital treatment and he died on 25 February 2013.
There is evidence of recent deaths among poultry in the man's village and he had a history of coming into contact with sick poultry prior to becoming unwell.
This is the 9th case in 2013, the 30th individual to become infected with the H5N1 virus and the 27th death from complications of the disease in Cambodia.
