Hepatitis A in India

An outbreak of hepatitis A has been reported from a village in Murbad, Thane district, Maharashtra state in the west of the country. More than 125 cases have been recorded since the first case was laboratory confirmed as hepatitis A on 7 March 2013.
The source of the outbreak has been confirmed as contaminated drinking water. The district health office has been raising awareness of the outbreak and is providing water purification treatment and advice.
Advice for Travellers
Hepatitis A vaccination is usually advised for all travellers visiting India. A good standard of food, water and personal hygiene should also be maintained whilst travelling.
