Chikungunya Virus Infection in India
06 Sep 2013
The Health minister for Kerala state and the health department has created an action plan to reduce chikungunya virus infections in 25 hot spots of the state. The move follows the reporting of more cases of chikungunya in Thiruvananthapuram district during the past few days.
The increase in chikungunya cases in city areas is causing concern. As many as 53 chikungunya cases were reported in the state capital (Thiruvananthapuram city) in August 2013, this compares with around 25 cases up to June 2013.
Primary health centres in corporation wards will coordinate the prevention activities which include fogging and source reduction activities in public places and households.
