Poliomyelitis in India (Update)
13 Jan 2014
It has now been three years since India last reported a case of wild polio virus infection in the country. 13 January 2014, marks a major triumph for India and is due to the commitment and dedication of the Indian government and all those involved in delivering the immunisation programme. Due to the dense population, India was thought to be the most difficult country for polio eradication.
The Regional Certifcation Commission will certify the South-East Asia Region of WHO as polio-free in March 2014, once laboratory samples for January and February have finally been cleared.
