Hepatitis A in Belize

An outbreak of hepatitis A has been reported in a school in Buena Vista, Cayo district in the west of Belize. The outbreak was identified in December 2014, and to date, a total of 20 cases have been reported. The Ministry of Health reports that the outbreak is localised and under control. The index case/source of the outbreak has not yet been identified.
Advice for Travellers
Hepatitis A vaccine is usually recommended for travellers to Belize. Travellers should also maintain a good standard of personal hygiene and food and water precautions in Belize.
