Avian Influenza (H7N9) (Human) in China (Update)

17 Jun 2015

On 12 June 2015, the Chinese National Health and Family Planning Commission notified WHO of 15 new laboratory-confirmed cases (including 3 deaths) of human infection with avian influenza A (H7N9).

Cases ranged in age from 3 to 77 years. Of the new, 8 (53%) were male. All cases reported exposure to a poultry related environment. No clusters were reported. Cases were reported from seven provinces and municipalities: Anhui (4), Beijing (1), Fujian (1), Hubei (1), Jiangsu (3), Jiangxi (1), and Zhejiang (4).

WHO is monitoring the epidemiological situation and carrying out risk assessment based on the latest information. The public health risk from avian influenza A(H7N9) viruses has not changed overall.

The Chinese government is continuing to take steps to strengthen surveillance, reinforce case management and medical treatment and inform and communicate risk with the public.
