Dengue Fever in Taiwan (Update)

New cases of dengue fever continue to be reported in Taiwan. Since the beginning of 2015, a total of 432 cases have been recorded.

Between 28 July-3 August 2015, 124 dengue fever cases were reported, of those, 114 were locally acquired infections and 102 of those were identified in Tainan city. Since May 2015, Tainan city has reported 251 locally acquired infections.

Advice for Travellers

Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, is recommended. Bite avoidance measures include: covering up with clothing, the use of insect repellent and bed nets impregnated with insecticide. Reduction of mosquito breeding sites around hotel rooms/homes is advised for longer term stays.
