Cholera in Tanzania (Update)

The cholera outbreak in Dar es Salaam and Morogoro region is ongoing and now includes Pwani and Iringa regions. Between 15 August - 3 September 2015, a total of 815 cases including 13 deaths have been reported. The worst affected district is Kinondoni municipality in Dar es Salaam with 471 cases.
The World Health Organization continues to support the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in the response to the outbreak, however, further resources are urgently required.
Advice for Travellers
Cholera is a low risk for most travellers. Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food/water precautions and personal hygiene should be maintained whenever possible.
