10 Nov 2015
An increase in typhoid infection has been reported in Kelantan state in the northeast of peninsular Malaysia. A total of 151 typhoid cases have been recorded, as of 31 October 2015; this compares with 35 cases during the same time period of 2014.
Contaminated water is thought to have contributed to the increase in cases as typhoid bacteria has been confirmed in at least 4 wells during the investigation. Less than 70% of the local population in the state use treated water and chose to use water from wells.
