Cholera in Zambia (Update)

The cholera outbreak in Zambia is ongoing with a total of 567 suspected cases reported; of those, 156 have been confirmed as cholera. Cases have been identified in the following areas: 481 in Lusaka City and 1 in Rufunsa district in Lusaka Province; 23 in Chibombo in Central province, 61 in Nsama in Northern Province and 1 in Ndola in Copperbelt Province.
The government continues to lead the response to the outbreak at national, provincial and district level.
Advice for Travellers
Cholera is a low risk for most travellers. Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food/water precautions and personal hygiene should be maintained whenever possible.
