Tick-borne Diseases in USA (Alabama)
02 Aug 2016
The media has reported a lack of awareness of tick-borne diseases in Alabama. The Alabama Department of Public Health has reportedly seen 40 new cases of Lyme disease and 346 cases of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, both tick-borne diseases, within the last 12 months.
Advice for Travellers
All travellers should be made aware of outdoor activities increasing tick exposure, e.g. walking, camping, cycling in forested areas in tick season and given advice on avoiding tick bites, prompt removal of ticks and use of appropriate clothing i.e. trousers tucked into socks.
