Campylobacter Outbreak in New Zealand

On Friday 19 August the Hawke's Bay District Health Board issued a news release regarding an outbreak of campylobacter infection that has been linked to contamination of the water supply. Reportedly, the current total of cases is 440 of which 106 are confirmed and 334 are probable.

Hawke’s Bay District Health Board’s main health advice is to boil water (or use bottled water) for food preparation, drinking and cleaning teeth, and to follow a good hand-washing routine to help prevent further spread of infection.

Advise to Travellers

Travellers to Hawke’s Bay should be made aware of current campylobacter outbreak in the area and advised to follow Hawke’s Bay District Health Board’s health advice: boil water (or use bottled water) for food preparation, drinking and cleaning teeth, and to follow a good hand-washing routine to help prevent further spread of infection.
