Yellow Fever (Human) in Bolivia

On Friday 10 February 2017 a media report
(in Spanish) advised that the Bolivian Ministry of Health (BMoH) has confirmed a positive case of yellow fever (YF) in a Danish citizen who was travelling in Caranavi.
In response, the BMoH has strengthened surveillance and control in the Caranavi area, and a vaccination campaign will also be initiated.
The case arrived in the region in January 2017 and presented to Caranavi Hospital with symptoms of YF where he was found to be positive. The man was given a medical discharge from Caranavi hospital; he then went to Chile for follow up treatment.
Advice to travellers
A traveller's risk of yellow fever is determined by their general risk assessment e.g. country visited, length of stay, city or rural, activities etc.
Mosquito bite avoidance rules should be adhered to - the mosquito that spreads yellow fever bites predominantly during the day.
Yellow fever vaccine should be considered for travellers at risk.
