Yellow Fever in Brazil (Update 6)

05 Apr 2017

There has been a further update from WHO (4 April 2017) on the risk of yellow fever transmission in Brazil. As a result, vaccination recommendations for travellers have been extended to include the entire State of Rio de Janeiro, including the city of Rio itself, and the entire State of São Paulo, except the urban areas of São Paulo city.

The determination of new areas considered to be at risk for yellow fever transmission is an ongoing process and updates will be provided regularly.

Advice for Travellers

Travellers are advised to use personal protective measures when entering areas where yellow fever is present. This includes using insect repellents and wearing appropriate clothing.

A vaccine is available for travellers to protect against yellow fever and all travellers going to Brazil should seek advice from their travel health provider about vaccination.
