Changes to Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname Malaria Advice
29 Jun 2017
The malaria advice and maps for Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname have recently been updated. This is following consideration by the Scottish Malaria Advisory Group (SMAG) after an extensive trawl of the available data.
In Guyana malaria risk is highest in interior regions and there is low to no risk along the coastal belt, West Demerara and Mahaica Berbice.
In French Guiana malaria risk is highest in the municipalities of Camopi, Saint Georges and Regina bordering Brazil. There is also evidence of a higher risk along the major rivers.
In Suriname there is low to no risk in most areas but with antimalarials being advised for certain higher risk groups, along the border with Guyana.
Please see the malaria section of the Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname country records for further details.
