Malaria in Uganda

The Ugandan Ministry of Health (MoH) has reported  that there has been an upsurge of malaria cases across the country. The upsurge was observed in June 2019 where a 40% increase in case numbers was observed in 2019 compared with 2018 (1.4 million compared with 1 million). The upsurge is associated with the rainy season and low bed net use. The MoH is responding appropriately.

Advice for Travellers

At this time malaria prevention advice for travellers to Uganda is unchanged: the entire country is a high risk area and antimalarial chemoprophylaxis is advised.

The importance of following existing guidance including avoidance of mosquito bites at all times is emphasized.
