Polio in South Sudan
30 Sep 2020
On 23 September 2020, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative reported three cases of polio in South Sudan; one case is in Warrap province and two cases are in the Western Bahr El Ghazal province.
These are the first polio cases in the country and they are linked to the ongoing outbreak in Chad.
Advice for Travellers
Poliomyelitis is spread between person to person through the faecal-oral route and by consuming contaminated food and water.
You should consider having a booster dose of polio vaccine if it has been more than 10 years since your last booster and you are travelling to a country where polio remains a problem.
