Polio in Congo

10 Nov 2020

On 04th November 2020, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) reported one new case of polio in Kouilou region, Congo making it the first case in the country. The virus is linked to the Huila outbreak in Angola.

Advice for Travellers

Poliomyelitis is spread between person to person through the faecal-oral route and by consuming contaminated food and water.

You should consider having a booster dose of polio vaccine if it has been more than 10 years since your last booster and you are travelling to a country where polio remains a problem.
