Salmonellosis in UK visitors to Turkey

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has reported 241 cases of Salmonella enteritidis from 15 January 2023 to 19 July 1993. Ninety-three of these people had visited Turkey, with the Antalya region being the most commonly reported destination.
Advice for Travellers
Salmonellosis is an illness caused by Salmonella bacteria which can cause you to have an upset stomach with symptoms such as diarrhoea, high temperature (fever) and stomach cramps. People feeling unwell with these symptoms should avoid preparing food or drinks for others until are free of symptoms.
You can reduce your risk of becoming infected by:
- taking food and water precautions
- practising good hand hygiene and personal hygiene
