Dengue in France

12 Jul 2024

On 8 July 2024, Occitania’s Regional Health Agency (ARS) reported (in French) a locally acquired case of dengue fever. The case was from the Hérault department of Occitania region in France and had no travel history. Local authorities have implemented mosquito control measures around the areas of Montpellier and Perols which were regularly visited by the case.

This is the first case of locally acquired dengue reported in France in 2024. In 2023, France reported 45 cases of locally acquired dengue across 7 regions. Of those cases, 22 were reported from Occitania region.

Dengue is an infection spread by mosquito bites that can cause a severe flu-like illness.
