Dengue in France (Update 2)

French public health authorities have reported a total of 9 cases of dengue across a wide area of southern France from 16 June 2024 to 8 August 2024. The affected areas are:
Herault: 1 case who became infected in either Montpellier ou Perols.
Gard: 1 case in Aimargues.
Lozere: 2 cases in Florac, althgough they may have become infected in Baho, Pyrenees-Orientales.
Alpes-Maritimes: 2 cases in La Colle sur Loup.
Vaucluse: 1 case in Sainte-Cecile-les-Vignes.
Var: 1 case in La Crau.
Dengue is an infection spread by mosquito bites and can cause a severe flu-like illness. It is uncommon in France but is known to occur in the summer months.
Advice for Travellers
The mosquitoes which transmit dengue bite during the day, between dawn and dusk. They are particularly persistent and aggressive.
If you are travelling to an affected region, you are potentially at risk of dengue fever and should be aware of this infection.
- You can protect yourself by avoiding mosquito bites at all times.
If you develop a high temperature (fever) either during or after travelling to an affected area, you should seek medical advice as soon as possible and give details of your recent travel history.
