Dengue in France (Update 5)

French public health authorities have reported a total of 46 cases of dengue across a wide area of southern France from 17 June 2024 to 6 September 2024. The affected areas are:
Alpes-Maritimes: 2 cases in La Colle sur Loup and 1 case who was infected in Menton or Monaco.
Drôme: 2 cases in Montelimar.
Herault: 1 case who was infected in Montpellier ou Perols.
Lozere: 2 cases in Florac, although they may have been infected in Baho, Pyrenees-Orientales.
Var: 20 cases in La Crau and 1 case in Frejus.
Vaucluse: 17 cases in Sainte-Cecile-les-Vignes.
Dengue is an infection spread by mosquito bites and can cause a severe flu-like illness. It is uncommon in France but is known to occur in the summer months.
Advice for Travellers
The mosquitoes which transmit dengue bite during the day, between dawn and dusk. They are particularly persistent and aggressive.
If you are travelling to an affected region, you are potentially at risk of dengue fever and should be aware of this infection.
- You can protect yourself by avoiding mosquito bites at all times.
If you develop a high temperature (fever) either during or after travelling to an affected area, you should seek medical advice as soon as possible and give details of your recent travel history.
